Learn to Win the Battle in the Spirit

When you become a Christian, you must come to the understanding that you are now standing on a battleground - a spiritual battleground where the devil is always contending. It's a battleground where you are now dealing with forces of darkness who used to have power over you but now are not. But do your battles ever stop? No. They even intensify since you are no longer in darkness but have become a Child of Light. The devil will throw everything at you purposely to quench your light and get you back to his camp.

When you become a Christian, you must come to the understanding that you are now standing on a battleground - a spiritual battleground where the devil is always contending. It's a battleground where you are now dealing with forces of darkness who used to have power over you but now are not. Your battles never stop because you've become a Christian. They even intensify since you are no longer in darkness but have become a Child of Light. The devil will throw everything at you purposely to quench your light and get you back to his camp.

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." (Ephesians 6:12 KJV)

Since the devil is a spirit being and does his battle in the spirit realm, you must learn how to do spiritual battle and win since most of the things that do happen in the physical take place in the spiritual realm first. Being ignorant of this can lead you to live a defeated life.

One thing we must come to understand is that the devil is already defeated by Christ Jesus on the Cross. Jesus, having spoiled or disarmed principalities and power, made a public show of them triumphing over them (Colossians 2:15). This means that we, being the children of God, have authority over the devil.
Everything the devil is doing now is to keep us ignorant of our victory in Christ. Being ignorant of his devices will give him an advantage over us (2 Corinthians 2:11).

We must, therefore, come to a knowledge of satan's devices or schemes and how he lays them. Because to fight and win a battle, you should assess the opponent's strength and strategy. This will give you an idea of how to prepare and strategically place yourself for battle.
But for us Christians, we already know that the devil is defeated. We know that Jesus made a public spectacle of them, and for that, his devices (his use of fear, doubt, confusion, desperation, ungodliness, pain, attacks, deception, persecution, negligence, accusation misunderstanding among brethren, and so on) are no longer hidden.

Having knowledge about satan's devices and his defeat, and again knowing that he will not stop battling us, we must always be ready to stand against his wiles.

We must learn to put on the Whole Armour of God.

"Wherefore take unto you  the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil  day, and having done all, to stand." (Ephesians 6:13)

Putting on or taking up the Whole Armour of God simply means putting on Christ Jesus because He is the All in All. He is the absolute power of God (1 Corinthians 2:5) to subdue our adversary and win our spiritual battles for us.

The Armour of God is the weapon of our warfare. It's not carnal but spiritual weapon, and it's mighty through God to pull down strongholds. (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)

Stand therefore, having your loins (waist) girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness (Ephesians 6:14).

  • Jesus is The Truth (John 14:6).
  • He is our Righteousness (Jeremiah 23:6).
  • He is our Gospel of Peace - the good tidings of great joy (Luke 2:10).
  • He is our Shield of Faith to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Because Jesus is born of God, he has overcome the world. And so we have overcome the world by our faith in Him. This is our victory. (1 John 5:4)
  • Jesus is our Helmet of Salvation. He is our salvation (John 3:17)
  • He is the Sword of the Spirit. He is The Word of God (Revelation 19:13). "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit.." (Hebrews 4:12)

Jesus Christ is found everywhere in the Armour of God. Putting Him on and allowing His Life to reign in us will let us win our spiritual battles. We will not struggle.

Learn to Pray more

It will become so difficult to win physical battles when they aren't won first in the spiritual. The real battle takes place in the spirit realm.
We notice in Jesus' earthly ministry that he will rise early in the morning, depart to a solitary place, and pray (Mark 1:35). In His intense moment at Gethsemane when he was to go to the Cross, he prayed to first overcome in the spirit before he went on the physical Cross (Matthew 26:39). Many times Jesus would move to a secluded place and pray to win in the spirit realm before performing in the physical.

The battle between the Israelites and the Amalekites in Exodus 17 clearly shows that spiritual battle is real. While Moses' hands were raised by Aaron and Hur on the hill, Joshua and his army were fighting in the valley. The physical battle was happening in the valley - Joshua and the army against the Amalekites, but the real spiritual battle was taking place on the hill.
"Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.
And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with  Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of  God in mine hand.
So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
But Moses hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him,  and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on  the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword." (Exodus 17:8-13)

We need to pray ceaselessly. We need to seek the face of God continuously to prevail in the spirit. We need to understand that the real battle happens in the spirit, so we must rise and pray always to take charge before we can rule the physical.

Total reliance on the Power of God

Trying not to fight spiritual battles with your own strength else you will be defeated. Rely on the power and authority of God. David said, "For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall." (Psalm 18:29)

"The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise  him." (Psalm 28:7)

"Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts." (Zechariah 4:6)

You have to acknowledge that your might and power cannot win spiritual battle, but the Spirit of God.
