How to become an Overcomer in your daily life

The lives we live as Christians in this world is a tough one. The warfare we are engaged in from various angles - ones that tackle us emotionally, psychologically, spiritually, and sometimes physically causes us to defeat. Our adversary, knowing that he can cause us to lose our grounds and therefore live defeated lives, will not cease raising mountains like fear, anxiety, pain, losses, challenges, uncertainty, health issues, sorrow, doubt, and the like to stand in our paths and stop us from reaching where God wants us to be. But when we stand in and maintain our grounds, we will not only emerge as conquerors, we will be more than that (Romans 8:37).

How can we maintain our grounds and be overcomers in our daily lives?

To do that, we must learn to deal with those mountains. That is, to know how to remove them from our ways.

Dealing and removing mountains from our faces and ways involve:

Faith and Action

"Jesus answered and said to them, Verily I say unto you, if ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done." (Matthew 21:21 KJV)

To have faith in God is the first and most important principle in dealing with mountains and living a victorious life. Faith in God is to believe and trust in His authority and sovereign power to deal with your mountains. "But without faith, it is impossible to please Him" (Hebrews 11:6). Then, with faith, it is possible to please God and receive His reward. Those who have faith in God and act on their faith receive His help in their daily lives. For instance, the woman with an issue of blood for 12 years had faith in Jesus Christ. She believed that Jesus had the power and authority to heal her, and she was healed indeed. She acted on her faith. "For she said, if I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole." Despite the crowd thronging Jesus, she made her way through and touched his clothes (Mark 5:25-34). The woman combined faith with action, and her mountain (hemorrhage) was removed by the power of God.

The men at Gennesaret and the people from all the country heard about Jesus, believed in him, and besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment (Matthew 14:34-36). This act of faith got them healed. The men believed (faith) and acted (sent out into all the country roundabout and brought sick folks to be healed).

But Jesus couldn't do mighty works in his hometown because of their unbelief (Mark 6:6). The people had no faith, and because of that, He could not help them.

If we can have faith and put it into action, no mountain will stand in our way. Jesus said, if you have faith and do not doubt it, you will speak to mountains to be removed, and it shall be done. (Matthew 21:21) Speak to your difficulties (mountains) with faith, and don't doubt it. Do not fear the adversary. "Behold I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you." (Luke 10:19 KJV)

When we believe and trust God's Power and Authority to deal with our mountains, we will be victorious according to our faith.

The Word of God

Whenever God speaks, there is authority that goes with His word to accomplish what He's intended to do. No mountain, no matter how high and strong it is, has the power to stand when the word of God is released. "Where the word of a King is, there is power: and who may say unto him, what doest thou?" (Ecclesiastes 8:4). Fear, sorrow, pain, difficulty, and any other challenge that stand as a mountain have no say when the word of God speaks.

You have to know the word of God and then apply it to your situation. How will you know the word? You will know by regularly engaging with the Bible to build your knowledge and faith. After knowing the word, don't keep mute, but speak forth. Declare the word with faith against those difficulties, standing on the authority of it. The word of God is quick (living), powerful, and sharper (Hebrews 4:12). The word of God is Spirit and Life (John 6:63). It gives life to that which is dead. So, speak to your situation.

Prayer

We must pray because prayer is a great weapon that removes mountains. "Is any among you afflicted? Let him pray" (James 5:13 KJV). Prayer removes afflictions (mountain). At Gethsemane, Jesus was disturbed to the extent he wished his cup had passed over him. That moment of perplexity was a mountain to stop him from going to the cross. But by prayer, he aligned his thoughts to the Will of God and overcame. (Matthew 26:38-39)

When Herod began to harass (persecute) the church by killing James and putting Peter in prison, they prayed ceaselessly. His threats and persecution were barriers or mountains against the church to stop them from doing the Will of the Lord but with ceaseless prayers, they overcame their fear, pain, and afflictions.

"Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex (harass) certain of the church.

And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)

And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.

Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him." (Acts 12:1-5)

Pray with the understanding that you are seated with Christ Jesus in Heavenly places far above principalities, rulers, powers, and dominion. The seat of Christ Jesus is a place of Power and Authority. So, seated with Him means we have the same authority over every mountain.

Stand in that glorious position of authority and pray authoritatively against the hindrances of the adversary.

Worship and Praises

One weapon that throughout the history of the Israelites has used to deal with mountains is worship and praise. Men like David, Joshua, Jehoshaphat, and the prophets used praise and worship as a weapon for their victories.

When Jehoshaphat heard that the children of Moab, the children of Ammon, and others beside the Ammonites had come against to battle them, he feared. He consulted the Lord, and the Spirit of God showed the people that sometimes mountains are removed by praises and worship. "And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten." (2 Chronicles 20:22)

David, most of the time in his life, used praises and worship to win his battles. In the most fearsome moments, he praised God and won victory. "What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me." (Psalm 56:3-4)

Worship and praise magnify God. When He is exalted, His glory manifests. And when His glory manifests fear, doubt, confusion, and every mountain is driven away.

Our Testimony

Give testimony of those things the Lord has done for you in the face of your mountains. The adversary does not want it when we live victorious lives. He hates it so much when we speak of the goodness of the Lord towards us. So, he raises mountains to suppress us. But when we testify continuously, we overcome. "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony;....." (Revelation 12:11)

You can become an overcomer, grounded in your faith and empowered by God to face and conquer challenges. Remember, being an overcomer is not about never facing challenges but about relying on God's strength, power, and authority to remove them.
